Attic Insulation Services

A well-insulated home is one of the most cost-effective ways to save energy and reduce heating and cooling bills. To help make an informed choice, get to know the ins and outs of insulation. Following a thorough cleaning, proper air sealing and attic insulation should be performed to protect your attic from any future threat.

Attic insulation can help to reduce energy expenses during the summer months by locking in the cool temperatures inside and resisting the heat transfer from warm air outside. Proper attic insulation and restoration will seal the gaps or cracks that might permit moisture, heat, or pests to enter your attic.

Save on Energy Bills

Attic insulation can help to reduce energy expenses during the summer months by locking in the cool temperatures inside and resisting the heat transfer from warm air outside.

Extend your Roof Life

Attic insulation can help to extend the life of your home by creating dry and controlled conditions and prevent damage to interior ceilings by eliminating undesirable moisture buildup.

Make you Comfortable

Insulation helps keep your home at a comfortable temperature and reduces the amount of energy used. It provides a noise reduction function, ensuring you’re not exposed to unwanted outdoor sounds.

Your attic does much more for your home than storing your stuff. It is designed to provide a protective barrier for your home from cold, heat and humidity. But in order for your attic to do its job, it must be properly insulated.

  • Keeps your house warm and saves you hundreds of euro annually
  • Helps to prevent tanks and pipes freezing in wintertime
  • Increases your BER rating and value of your home
  • Improves the acoustic performance of your ceiling and can reduce external noise

Lower utility bills

Heating and cooling account for 50 to 70 percent of the energy used in the average American home. And if your home is uninsulated or under-insulated, you’ll spend extra money trying to maintain comfortable temperatures. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, you can save an average of 15 percent on heating and cooling costs (or an average of 11 percent on total energy costs) by air sealing your home and insulating attics, floors and crawl spaces. How much money you will save may depend on a number of factors, including your family’s lifestyle, your home’s design and your type of heating system, but you can expect big energy savings which translate to big dollar savings. In fact, the average homeowner can save about $780 per year.

Safer home structure

Insulating your attic can prevent gradual damage to your home, caused by heat and moisture. It prevents water vapor from seeping in and eroding your walls. It also slows down heat buildup in your attic, which can cause the shingles on your roof to swell and crack or cause the plywood on your deck to soften. It prevents ice dams from forming when melting snow refreezes on your roof’s edge. Furthermore, insulating your attic can prevent mold that thrives in moist, cool areas. Insulation stops these problems from occurring by mitigating the effects of condensation.

Better indoor air quality

Outdoor pollutants such as dust, dirt, mold, mildew and even worse can enter your home through air leaks caused by poor insulation. As time passes, the accumulation of these airborne toxins can seriously compromise your indoor air quality. Insulating your attic maintain prevents these pollutants from spreading throughout your home, allowing your family to breathe easier and enjoy a cleaner indoor environment. In addition, installing new insulation can remove pollutants that may have lived on your old insulation.

Better indoor comfort

Heat naturally flows from warmer to cooler places. And even homes that are equipped with modern heating and cooling systems can cause severe temperature fluctuations when under-insulated. This means that the home can become hot or cold more quickly when the temperature changes outside, and that rooms on upper floors may differ in temperature significantly from those on lower floors. A temperature difference of 10 to 15 degrees between floors in your home is a sure sign that your home has too little insulation. Most bedrooms in U.S. homes are located on upper floors, so adding insulation is a great way to ensure comfort at night and in the early morning, when temperatures are at their lowest.

Less HVAC wear and tear

Older homes tend to be drafty, and poor insulation can cause your heating and cooling systems to work overtime to maintain an even temperature. These temperature swings can become even more exaggerated in homes where ductwork runs through the attic. Proper attic insulation prevents cool air from lingering at the lower levels while heat rises, resulting in less and tear on your HVAC unit. With less heat gain in the summer and heat loss in the winter, you’ll reduce your family’s reliance on your home’s heating and cooling systems while maintaining comfortable indoor temperatures year-round.

The higher the R-Value, the better the thermal performance of the insulation. The recommended level for most attics is to insulate to R-38 or about 10 to 14 inches, depending on insulation type.
Installing attic insulation this winter is a worthwhile long-term investment because it can significantly decrease your heating bills. As an added benefit, when the hot D.C. temperatures come back, the attic insulation will also minimize your air conditioning bills.
Improperly disturbing insulation can cause microscopic asbestos fibers to break away and become airborne which is dangerous to anyone in close proximity. The older asbestos is, the more likely it is to degrade with time and once fibers are inhaled it can cause serious health issues
But there may be a theoretical point of “too much.” If a home is over-insulated and is too tightly sealed, moisture can get trapped inside. Without proper ventilation, a home can build up too much moisture, especially in the attic (warm air rises), which can cause mold problems and, overall, lower indoor air quality.
Roof insulation is no-contest. The floor wins every time. Insulating the floor is standard practice for an unfinished attic space. The exception to this rule takes place when families opt to convert an unfinished attic space into something usable or livable.
Unless the old attic insulation is wet, new insulation can be installed over old insulation. Any wetness will get trapped between the old and new it will mildew, mold and rot the attic floor and rafters.
You can absolutely new insulation over old insulation… as long as it isn't wet. ... Remove any wet insulation. Wet insulation can lead to mold, mildew, or even the rotting of your ceiling or roof rafters.” In fact, you can add new insulation over the existing installation in other areas of your home, not just the attic.
Insulation should also be replaced, in some cases sooner than 15 years, if it is no longer doing its job properly. You'll know it needs to be replaced if there are insulation leaks or if it is peeling from the walls.
YES. That's because open-cell spray foam can transmit air and moisture. Closed-cell spray foam is a better choice for keeping subfloor moisture at optimal levels, while open-cell spray foam is a better choice for walls and attics, because it allows homes to “breathe”.

I highly recommend Exalted Services fast, efficient and great customer service. They came by the house to measure the attic and the state of the existing Insulation. They provided a fair quote; and the work was scheduled within a couple days and was well done.
They even extended and added to provide more ventilation. They offered me the opportunity to have a look at their work before the attic hatch was closed up, and they cleaned and vacuumed the room and closet as well.
I will be using Exalted Services for all my future home improvement services.
